Originally from Greenville, South Carolina,
Mr. Nelson graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in 1985. He has
been engaged as principal bassist in orchestras in the United States, Italy and Germany.
He moved to Europe in 1986 and was appointed principal bassist of the Gera Philharmonic
Orchestra in Thuringia, as well as the Reuss Chamber Orchestra in 1991. Mr. Nelson
served as a co-artistic director of MusicaEuropa, a chamber music festival and residency
program at Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina from 1995 to 1997. He is also active
