The Thüringer Salonquintett |
... is a chamber music ensemble committed to the wonderful Central European tradition of light and entertaining music. Transcending notions of "classical" and "popular" music, the quintet is breaking new ground in audience development through fun and innovative programming combined with impeccable and spontaneous musical delivery. |
|
| The quintet's repertoire ranges from the Viennese Classics of the mid 1700's, to the eternally beautiful waltzes, galops, and fantasies of the 19th century, on to the enchanting film music of the first half of the 20th century, all the way to modern commissions by leading composers writing in current idioms. Their programs reflect their mission, which is to offer audiences a reprieve from the breakneck pace of daily life. All the pieces in the quintet's large repertoire have one common element - they offer sheer, unadulterated listening pleasure. | |
| The Thüringer Salonquintett was founded in 1973 as the Salonorchester Voigt by the violin virtuoso and concertmaster Herbert Voigt. In its early years, the group achieved considerable recognition on the East German music scene through its concerts and recordings. On important occasions and in some of the greatest halls, the musicians confirmed time and again their reputation as a union of exceptional quality. When Herbert Voigt retired, the ensemble found a fitting successor in Andreas Hartmann, one of Germany's leading violinists. After German reunification, the group was renamed the Thüringer Salonquintett. Their first CD - Serenade d'Amour - on the German label Querstand has brought international acclaim and a second CD entitled - Springtime in Vienna - was released in August 1998. | |
| Since Autumn 2000 their third CD has been a big hit: Roses from the South features music of Johann and Josef Strauss, as well as Johannes Brahms | |
| The quintet is comprised of the classic
Kaffeehaus instrumentation of 2 violins (one doubling viola), cello, double bass and
piano. The group is renowned for its demandingly high performance standards. All of the
members are virtuosos in their own right. This combination of technical brilliance with
light-hearted fun has guaranteed the quintet a growing world-wide audience. For more details to the musicians have a look at their biographies . |
